National Parks in Ireland

National parks are specially designated protected areas of unspoilt beauty, and are generally a magnet for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. There are currently six Irish national parks, all of which are in the Republic of Ireland. They are:

  Ballycroy National Park

  Connemara National Park

  Glenveagh National Park

  Killarney National Park

  The Burren National Park

  Wicklow Mountains National Park

There are ongoing discussions aimed at creating up to two new national parks in Northern Ireland. If plans go ahead, this is likely to involve upgrading some areas from AONB status.
