Irish Walking Guide Book of the Year

The Irish Walking Guide Book of the Year award is our way of giving recognition to the walking guide book which walkers in Ireland collectively identify as having been the most helpful for planning their walks during the year.

Flicking through the pages of a good walking guide book is probably the most satisfying way to find inspiration for your future walks. Whether it's a regional or all-Ireland guide book, the routes described within will have been carefully selected, researched, walked, written up, photographed and illustrated by leading experts.

For Ireland, we have compiled a list of all the very best Irish walking guide books. This list currently comprises 30 titles by 16 different authors and five publishers.

Vote for your favourite by taking part in The Ireland Walking Survey (via the green button below). The guide book which attracts most votes each year will become the Irish Walking Guide Book of the Year.

If you've walked in any of Ireland's popular walking areas, you probably own at least one of these guide books already. If you don't have any yet, start building your walking guide book collection today.

Walking initiatives

We have developed the widest possible selection of meaningful initiatives to promote recreational walking in Ireland. These are delivered across The Ireland Walking Guide and High Point Ireland websites and range from monthly walking themes right through to the official All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships. We aim to deliver a consistent programme of initiatives every year on a recurring basis rather than a series of standalone one-off campaigns. Our "predictable" approach to participation initiatives means walkers always know what's coming up and have ample time to plan ahead. But why should you take part? Click here to find out...
