Irish Walking Clubs

Irish walking clubs offer a range of benefits to their members. If you are new to recreational walking in Ireland, a club can provide a good selection of organised walks led by its more experienced members. If you are already an experienced recreational walker, a club is likely to welcome you as an additional walk leader. Either way, walking with a club will bring you to places in Ireland you have never visited before and introduce you to new people.

We have created an alphabetical list of all the Irish walking clubs who have requested a listing on our website and plotted them on two handy interactive maps below. These maps illustrate each club's membership catchment area (up to 3 adjoining counties) and where they actually walk (up to 7 walking areas). If you are thinking about joining a walking club in Ireland, this will help you to find a local club who regularly walks in the places where you want to walk.

Each club listed on this website also has its own dedicated profile page. This provides a helpful overview to help potential new members get a better idea of the club's membership catchment area, regular walking locations, and the type of walking they do. Club profile pages are linked to from the alphabetical list, slideshow and maps below. They are also linked to from other related pages throughout the website. Each profile page links contains a single-click link to the respective club's own website.

Being part of a walking club is a great way for like-minded individuals to walk and chat together. As well as the obvious social opportunities, it is safer to walk as part of a group. For these reasons, we promote group walking early in the year as our monthly theme for February.

Where local access restrictions exist (e.g. those indicated by "Private Property" signs, "No Trespassing" signs, etc), you are strongly advised to comply with the relevant landowner's wishes.

Irish Walking Clubs - The Ireland Walking Guide

Support us (at no cost)

Our website is a 100% free resource for all to view without having to pay any subscription fees. We cover all the costs of running and maintaining the website ourselves on a voluntary basis. And we do all of this purely for our love of walking in Ireland. The long-term development strategy for The Ireland Walking Guide will continue to be implemented over the coming years and for as long as it takes until our strategic goals are achieved. Here are some zero-cost, zero-time ways in which you can support the ongoing development of The Ireland Walking Guide and its growing family of independent Irish information websites.

Walking initiatives

We have developed the widest possible selection of meaningful initiatives to promote recreational walking in Ireland. These are delivered across The Ireland Walking Guide and High Point Ireland websites and range from monthly walking themes right through to the official All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships. We aim to deliver a consistent programme of initiatives every year on a recurring basis rather than a series of standalone one-off campaigns. Our "predictable" approach to participation initiatives means walkers always know what's coming up and have ample time to plan ahead. But why should you take part? Click here to find out...
