We are @irelandwalking
Find us on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram using the icons below. If you use any of these social media platforms, you are very welcome to follow us there. Please note that the development of The Ireland Walking Guide website is where we direct most of our screen time. Being the core of our online presence, the website is the focal point of our internet-based activities. For this reason, we only visit our social media channels when we have news and announcements of our own to post. Getting these messages to you is the primary purpose of our social media channels. Feel free to interact with our posts if you wish to, but there are no expectations from us for you to do so. While others are driven by getting likes and shares, we are not. During our social media visits, we will also interact with any Irish walk-related stories, photos, videos, news and announcements which have been brought to our attention by using the @irelandwalking tag.
In general, we aim to limit our social media usage to a maximum of one hour in total each week. Not only have we chosen this approach for time management and efficiency reasons, we also believe that less exposure to social media (and screens in general) helps us to maintain and improve our mental health while freeing up additional time for physical activity.
Having said that, we do recognise the benefits of using social media. Each time we post our own news and announcements, we will also use that time to share and like as many of your Irish walk-related posts as we can. We are keen to see relevant Irish walk-related stories, photos, videos, news and announcements from individual walkers, clubs, guides, training providers, event organisers, outdoor bloggers, ground-based photographers and film-makers (no drone footage), etc. Please note that we will prioritise walking clubs who have completed profiles on our website. We will also prioritise walking guides, skills training providers and recurring walking events which are listed on the website.
Share your posts with us on social media any time. We'll interact with them next time we're on.
Helping you find more posts
Follow us on social media if you are looking for a rich selection of walk-related posts from all over Ireland. You can find us on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram. We want to share as many of your posts as possible on our feeds to showcase Ireland's abundant walking opportunities and stunning scenery. There you will find inspiration for your next walk, details of upcoming events, and see what your local walking club has been getting up to. We will also keep you updated on The Ireland Walking Guide website's ongoing development and its unrivalled selection of walking initiatives.
Helping you reach a bigger audience
Whether you're posting photos and videos from your latest walk, announcing an upcoming event, recruiting new members to your club, or promoting a product in your outdoor shop, we are more than happy to help you reach a bigger audience. Here's how we do it.
We check for new notifications on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram. If we find posts which are relevant to our specialist topic and are positive in tone, we will generally give them likes. We aim to share as many of these as possible on the @irelandwalking feeds each time we visit our social media channels. If we have anything to add, we will do so in the comments.
In order to interact with your social media posts, we need to be able to find them first. This is where you can help. The easiest way to bring your posts to our attention on Twitter, Threads, Facebook and Instagram is by tagging them @irelandwalking. Each time you do this, we will usually (but not always) receive a notification.
Please note that a share on our feed is not guaranteed even if it is tagged. We want our feeds to be as diverse as possible in terms of the whos and the wheres. For this reason, we prefer not to have multiple posts by the same poster appearing consecutively in our feeds. This should also bring about some diversity in the places being featured.
The more eye-catching your post is, the higher its chances of being shared by us. Text-only posts will not be shared. We may also share untagged posts brought to our attention through third-party shares. Comments containing suspicious-looking URLs will be deleted where possible and will not be shared. Any URL which does not generate a relevant and authentic-looking preview will be regarded as suspicious and potentially harmful.
Please note that we do not promote or encourage the use of drones in tranquil, scenic locations. Walkers want to be able to enjoy the peace and quiet these places can offer. For this reason, we do not interact with any social media posts which include photos or video footage captured using drones. As these devices become more popular, they have the potential to become as big a nuisance in our countryside as littering and quad bikes.
Any posts shared by @irelandwalking which feature Irish mountains or High Points may also be shared by @hipointireland. High Point Ireland is the All-Ireland governing body for Sport Hillwalking.
We are happy to interact with tagged posts by all Irish walking clubs, event organisers, guides, training providers, outdoor shops and any other related organisations. However, priority will be given to walking clubs who have completed a profile page on our website, and other entities who are listed in our website's Community section.
