25 Irish Mountains Challenge

The goal in this unique Irish mountaineering challenge is to visit any 25 of Ireland's 209 mountain summits within a single Sport Hillwalking season. Each mountain summit is worth a single point in this eight-month-long challenge and can only be counted once.

The 25 Irish Mountains Challenge also gives participants an opportunity to pursue our annual Irish Mountaineer of the Year award. At the end of the Sport Hillwalking season, the man and woman who logs visits to more mountain summits than anyone else using the  Peakhunter app will receive the Irish Mountaineer of the Year award.

Peakhunter is our official logging partner.

This challenge is hosted exclusively within the Peakhunter platform where every successful challenger earns a digital badge for their Peakhunter profile page. To receive the badge, participating hillwalkers are required to register for this challenge. To register, you must be signed into your Peakhunter account. Once signed in, click the green button below. The registration process only takes a few seconds.

If you would also like to represent your walking club / county / province in our Sport Hillwalking team competitions, you are very welcome to take part in the
All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships.

The 25 Irish Mountains Challenge also provides an interesting charity-fundraising opportunity for hillwalkers.

During the Sport Hillwalking season, challengers can also count mountain summit visits towards their All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships scores. Walking initiatives

We have developed the widest possible selection of meaningful initiatives to promote recreational walking in Ireland. These are delivered across The Ireland Walking Guide and High Point Ireland websites and range from monthly walking themes right through to the official All-Ireland Hillwalking Championships. We aim to deliver a consistent programme of initiatives every year on a recurring basis rather than a series of standalone one-off campaigns. Our "predictable" approach to participation initiatives means walkers always know what's coming up and have ample time to plan ahead. But why should you take part? Click here to find out...
